Endometrial
Hyperplasia
Esndometrial hyperplasia is a precancerous
condition of the lining of the uterus. The
endometrium, overstimulated by estrogen, becomes
very thick and develops a certain tissue pattern.
The condition itself is not a form of cancer, but
if it continues without treatment, many think
that the chances of developing uterine cancer
increase. Pap smears can alert the doctor to any
number of problems, giving the woman the
opportunity to obtain early treatment.
TREATMENTS
- Progesterone
therapy is often tried before a
hysterectomy is recommended. The hormone
progesterone changes the tissue pattern
of the thickened endometrium. After
progesterone treatment, the endometrium
along with its abnormal tissue is shed.
- Hysterectomy.
If the progesterone therapy is not
successful, then hysterectomy is
recommended to prevent the condition from
possibly becoming cancerous.
