Dr. Benenati joined the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute in 1989 after serving as assistant professor of radiology and surgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, where he also completed a fellowship in cardiovascular and interventional radiology.  Previously, Dr. Benenati spent four years from 1984 – 1988 at Indiana University Medical Center Hospital where he completed his radiology residency and a fellowship in vascular radiology.   Dr. Benenati is currently the Medical Director of the Peripheral Vascular Laboratory at the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and is the Director of the Fellowship Program.  Dr. Benenati is active in numerous clinical research projects in the areas of treatment of peripheral vascular disease including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with endografts, the use of stents in peripheral vascular disease, methods of prevention of restenosis in the femoral and popliteal arteries including brachytherapy and in tumor embolization including uterine artery embolization for the treatment of fibroids.  He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles that have been published in medical journals including the Journal of the American Medical Association, Radiology and the Journal of Vascular & Interventional Radiology among others.  Dr. Benenati is a fellow in the American Heart Association and in the Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology.  He has been very active in lecturing at scientific meetings throughout the United States as well as abroad.  He is a Voluntary Associate Professor of radiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine and also a Courtesy Associate Professor at the Biomedical Engineering Institute, Florida International University.
