Dr. Göran Hellers

Dear Dr. Hellers,

I am writing you to let you know how pleased I am with my Swedish Adjustable Gastric Band. The operation was a success and I am very pleased with my results. Before the operation in May 1997, I weighed 232 pounds and was a size 24. I had heel spurs, it was hard to walk, getting in and out of my car was a problem, etc. Now I weigh 125 pounds. I lost 107 pounds in one year and am a size 8 now. I love the way I look now. I feel fabulous.

Stockholm was wonderful. The hotel was very comfortable and everyone spoke English so there was no language problem. I enjoyed the museums and sightseeing.

The hospital was very clean and bright with plenty of flowers. The nursing staff was excellent. YOU WERE FABULOUS. I would have the operation again with no hesitation. Hopefully I'll get to see you again when you visit the US. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jenniffer A. Welliver.

Hi,

My name is Vuokko Tuura and I am 50 years old (2000). I have been big since I was young. I tried many different weight loss programs, felt bad, and went up and down like a yoyo. I weighed 108 kg (238 pounds) and I am only 158 cm tall (5’2").

My legs and knees started hurting and I had palpitations.

I lost many workdays by staying home sick, felt very inferior, and felt that I always had to pretend to be happy to show that I was like everyone else.

Then, one day, I read an ad in the newspaper regarding adjustable gastric banding. I had my surgery done on Oct. 17, 1991. and my new life started from then on.

I have lost 40 kg (88 pounds). Also, I had a tummy tuck. I am very happy with my life. It has not been a "dance on roses", but I would do it all over again if I had to.

One has to think of what one eats, and how one eats it, slowly and in small portions.

The palpitations have disappeared completely, and I rarely feel the hurt in the knees anymore. Now I am very rarely away from work.

I have become an open and harmonious person.

Vuokko Tuura.

I was not fat when I was young. But I had a car accident in 1971, and could not work anymore after that. I started gaining weight. Like for so many others, life was sitting at home watching TV, and eat good food, coffee and pastry. Then, one day, I heard about this operation, and I thought it was great. This was in 1994, and I weighed 103 kg (227 pounds).

On my 45th birthday, Oct 10, 1996, I was lying on the operating table at the Huddinge Hospital. After that, the weight loss started with ½-1 kg (1.2 – 2.2 pounds) per week. Today, December 2000, I weigh 61 kg (134 pounds). I got a great present on my 45th birthday.

Today, I feel great, and eat minerals and vitamins every day. Some days, there is no problem in eating, other days, it is more difficult to get it down. By this I mean that I even feel great when I eat very little. I feel great, and feel good about myself. Nothing is heavy or tiresome anymore. And it’s not only food that I think of anymore but of everything that I want to do. The whole world lies open to me now. Even all other people seem to notice me now, even if I am much smaller now. They even take notice when I give my opinion on things. There is nothing I regret in doing this operation.

Renée Rudja

I am 22 years old. I had my gastric banding operation in May 2000. Life before the operation was a "heavy" life.

I carried around 165 kg (363 pounds) and am 190cm tall (6’3"). I have always been big. I seem to have started gaining weight at the age of 10, when my father died. I believe that I started eating to compensate for my grief.

The way to the operation was long. After 2 years’ waiting in the county that I belonged to, I was informed that there were no more public resources to cover the cost of the procedure. I thought that was the end of it, when I heard that Dr. Göran Hellers had no waiting lists.

I had to argue substantially with the county that I was going to have the operation made at a private clinic, but with the help of television and newspapers, I got the go-ahead. I was so determined to have this operation, that I would have taken a bank loan, if the social security hadn’t covered the cost. Today, January 2001, I am writing this story, with 43 kg less (95 pounds).

Life after the operation is completely different. I much less tired, and I can go to a regular store and buy clothes.

And my self-esteem is greatly improved. I can converse normally to people, giving my own opinions on things, something I never dared before.

Also, my weightloss is working great. I now lose 2 kg (4.4 pounds) per month, and feel better than ever. I can eat almost anything. I have to be take it easy with white bread.

It feels as if I got a second chance in life, and I cannot describe with words how thankful I am to Dr. Hellers.

In January 2000, I got a daughter. Think how wonderful it is to be able to play around with her, without having a sensation of getting a heart attack. Wonderful!

If someone asked me whether I would undergo this operation again, There is only one answer: Of course!

I am a 60-year-old woman, married, with two adult sons. On April 1998, when I weighed 120 kg (260 pounds), I met for the first time Dr. Goran Hellers and my life changed dramatically. I was operated on May 7.

One week later, I weighed 2.5 pounds less. I decided to buy myself a red rose for every 2 pounds that I lost. The scale showed ever-decreasing numbers. I became so happy when my clothes started hanging loose.

These are some of the most positive experiences that I have had since the operation:

  • Previously, I had asthma and allergies, and now I feel great and I don’t take any medication anymore
  • I can bend down and play with kids on the floor.
  • I can turn in the bed without feeling like a sea lion.
  • To go up stairs is no problem. Not like before, when I had to rest at each step.
  • I is great to sit down on a chair without thinking that it might break (which has happened!)
  • Previously, when we traveled on holiday and I sat down in the seat of the plane, I had difficulty in getting out of it.
  • I had not been able to use a gold necklace that I once received from my family long ago, but now I can. Same thing with my wedding ring.
  • My husband even gave me a motorcycle! He loves riding motorcycles, and he is now so happy that I ride one myself next to him.
  • I have now even tried riding horses, and I will continue with that (we live in the countryside, and our neighbor has horses).
  • My hairdresser says that he now needs to tighten the sheet around my neck much tighter.
  • My expenses for clothing have gone up dramatically, but what does that matter, now that I have so many more clothes to choose from!
  • I feel so much happier and positive.
  • I take more time and interest in dressing better and having my hair done properly, and people comment on this and give me compliments.

I am so grateful for having had the privilege of having this operation and met Dr. Hellers and his wonderful nurse Gunvor who always is available for a little conversation.

Today, June 4, 2000, I weigh 105 pounds less, and I feel great! Thanks to Dr. Hellers and his staff!

Siv Andersson, Eskilstuna, Sweden

Dr. Shrihari Dhore-Patil

" I lost 106 pounds within 12 months and got rid of my high blood sugar within three months. I suffered from many ailments like eczema and intertrigo and was hospitalized for it. Now I look good and feel good both physically and mentally. It's been new lease on life for me. As I was psychologically depressed earlier and not very physically active, my job and family life suffered a lot. Dr. Dhore-Patil is the greatest boon to obese people like us."

Shyamali Deb

" I was miserable with my 264 pounds and was fed up of hearing the snide remarks people passed. Working in my shop located in the busy MG road, was becoming a painful experience. This surgery has return my life around and I
have become a much healthier person. I was operated on in April 2000 and now weight 150 pounds."

Farzana Khan

" I have come down to 206 pounds and feel and look great. I wish every obese person would seriously consider this option and feel the difference."

Dr. Carlos Casalnuovo

No tuve dudas...

Gracias Doctor.
